Is there are deadline for the PhD application?

In general not; we admit PhD candidates on continuous basis. You should apply for a scholarship between 3 months and 6 months before the prefered starting date, and not later than 2 months before this date. However, there are periods where all scholarships are already granted. If the call for applications does not indicate the date of the first available scholarship, please contact the GSBC-EIC coordinator for more information.

Can I submit the required documents electronically?

Yes, you can send all documents electronically. This includes also scanned copies of BA, MA certificates, the reference letters, writing samples and thesis. The submission can be via email or postal.

What kind of degree do I require to apply for a PhD scholarship?

To apply for this program you have to have either a diploma or an MA/MSc in economics, business, finance, or a related field. Therefore you should have finished your MA before you can apply. A bachelorís diploma or a diploma of universities of applied science is not complying with the requirements for a PhD-scholarship of this program.

My master thesis / diploma thesis is not in English. Should I translate it?

Send a copy of the thesis and provide an English summary of about 10 pages.

Do I need to sumbit official tests of English proficiency (e.g. TOEFL)

No, you will prove your proficiency in English during the interviews.

Do I need to take GMAT/GRE tests or provide you with GMAT/GRE scores

No, this is not necessary

What is the scholarship amount?

The scholarship amounts to something about 1300 Ä a month and depends on your family status.

Can non-German students apply?

Yes, our program is not restricted to Germans. We are eager to have an international group of doctoral students.

What is the language of instruction?

The language of instruction is English. There will be no requirement of speaking German during the program.

What is the 10-page writing sample all about?

The writing sample could be a research proposal, a chapter of your master thesis or a paper you have already published or you are working on. The sample should comprise about 10 pages and should be written in English. It should be within the research topics of the "Economics of Innovative Change". The writing sample is different from a summary of your master thesis. Only when your master thesis is in the field of innovation economics you can submit parts of your master thesis as a writing sample.

Can I apply for a doctoral scholarship next year?

Yes, this is a continuous program. In principle you can start anytime, of course depending on whether a scholarship is available.
